USC Roski Eye Institute Glaucoma Service offers a one-year Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO) FCC compliant fellowship in glaucoma management and surgery. Clinical experience consists of glaucoma faculty clinics, as well as clinics at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), and LAC + USC Medical Center. Fellows have an opportunity to manage complex adult and pediatric glaucoma patients with supervision from the faculty.
In addition, Dr. Rohit Varma, MD, Interim Dean of the Keck School of Medicine of USC and Chairman of the USC Department of Ophthalmology, conducts glaucoma rounds every other Wednesday.
The surgical experience is broad and includes conventional surgery, such as glaucoma drainage devices (Baerveldt/Ahmed), trabeculectomies (fornix/limbal based), goniotomies, trabeculotomies and novel techniques, such as iStent, trabectome and express shunt. We also perform transscleral CPC and ECPC. USC Roski Eye Institute has state of the art imaging and research facilities that add to the well-rounded experience offered during this important year of training.
It’s been a privilege to work & train at County. Our longitudinal clinic exposes us to a unique at-risk patient population with incredible stories, and breadth & depth of pathology.
