Optometry and PROSE Service

PROSEOptometrists at the USC Roski Eye Institute provide a wide range of diagnostic and consultative services. Our optometrists perform comprehensive evaluations, medical diagnostic services and computerized topography during each visit. We offer general optometry services including correction of refractive errors, such as astigmatism, farsightedness, nearsightedness and presbyopia.

We also have unique expertise in the fitting of specialty contact lenses such as rigid gas permeable and hybrid lenses used in the treatment of keratoconus and irregular corneas. Our comprehensive eye exams also include binocular vision testing, eye pressure testing and dilated retinal exams. For eye exams, diagnostic services, contact lenses, and more, get in touch with our optometry service by calling 323-442-6335 or filling out the online contact form today.

PROSE Service

In addition to our optometric services, the USC Roski Eye Institute offers the innovative prosthetic replacement of the ocular surface ecosystem (PROSE) treatment for more severe corneal issues and ocular surface disease. PROSE treatment involves specialty, scleral prosthetic devices that are custom-designed to help improve vision, comfort or support of the ocular surface. As one of 12 national sites offering PROSE treatment, our physicians are able to individualize treatment of irregular corneas and ocular surface disease.

The BostonSight® PROSE clinic at the USC Roski Eye Institute, which opened in 2009, is supervised by J. Bradley Randleman, MD, Director of Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery, and Gloria Chiu, OD, FAAO, FSLS, Boston Sight PROSE Clinical Fellow. The PROSE clinic at the USC Roski Eye Institute was the third site of 12 opened nationally and boasts the highest level of experience in delivering PROSE treatment outside of Boston where the treatment was pioneered.

If you are interested in PROSE treatment, you will need a referral from a primary eye care provider or a medical doctor. PROSE treatment generally involves multiple visits, which include a consultation, training for proper device wear and maintenance, and follow up visits to design and evaluate fitting of custom devices.

Our Patient-Centered Approach

Our number one priority is addressing our patients’ concerns, whether that includes alleviating pain, correcting vision or both, and ensuring patients are receiving the care they need. We build relationships with our patients, as treatment may involve multiple visits and annual follow-up care. Due to the collaborative and comprehensive level of care within the USC Roski Eye Institute, we can provide immediate referrals to ophthalmologists in every subspecialty, if necessary. Our optometrists are highly experienced and completed additional residencies in cornea and contact lenses giving them a unique level of training in specialty contact lens fitting.
