Starting July 1, 2021, the LAC+USC/USC Roski Eye Institute will transition to an integrated ophthalmology program format in compliance with ACGME guidelines. The integrated internship year at LAC+USC is specifically designed to give interns exposure to a broad variety of clinical specialties that will help them become exceptional ophthalmologists. Ophthalmology interns will spend 3 months rotating with the LAC+USC Ophthalmology service and gain experience in developing fundamental ophthalmology skills and building a strong ophthalmic knowledge foundation prior to starting the 3-year residency. Residents applying during the fall of 2020 will be applying for both the integrated ophthalmology internship year and ophthalmology residency, with a planned start date of July 1, 2021.
Integrated Preliminary Year Curriculum (4-week blocks)
The integrated ophthalmology internship year is divided into 13 4-week blocks. The planned rotations are listed below:
- 2 blocks Internal Medicine
- 1 block Rheumatology
- 2 blocks General Surgery
- 1 block ENT
- 1 block Emergency Room
- 1 block Neurology
- 3 blocks Ophthalmology
- 1 block Research Elective
- 1 block Vacation
