Melissa Yuen, AuD, is an audiologist with Keck Medicine of USC who specializes in treating a wide range of hearing disorders. By combining evidence-based practice and a compassionate approach, she provides her patients with care that is both effective and meaningful.
Throughout her career, Dr. Yuen has prioritized building strong, trusting relationships with each patient. She strongly believes that when patients feel heard and respected, they are more comfortable sharing concerns and collaborating on solutions, which in turn leads to better treatment outcomes.
Dr. Yuen earned her Doctor of Audiology degree from San Diego State University and the University of California, San Diego. After clinical rotations at the universities, as well as at the VA San Diego Health Care System, Pacific Hearing and Balance Inc., and Newport-Mesa Audiology, Balance and Ear Institute, she completed her clinical residency at Shohet Ear Associates Medical Group in Seal Beach, California.
Dr. Yuen serves as a clinical assistant professor of otolaryngology – head and neck surgery with the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Her research interests explore the relationship between hearing, aging and cognition, focusing on how memory, attention and processing changes affect patient outcomes with hearing aids and cochlear implants. She is also interested in how untreated hearing loss may contribute to social isolation and an increased risk of dementia. Additionally, Dr. Yuen is drawn to issues of access and equity in hearing health care, especially regarding how financial or systemic barriers affect whether people seek or benefit from treatment.
Born and raised in Chicago, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling and exercising.
